REAL SNOWMASS WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: Adam and Jennifer’s Intimate Destination Wedding

0

Wedding Date: 07/01/2016
Bride and Groom: Jennifer Hassett and Adam Peters

Where did you have your ceremony?
Aspen Wedding Deck

How did you decide on this location?
We were in Aspen for New Years Eve and fell in love with the view from the top of Aspen Mountain so we did some research, found the gorgeous wedding deck and inquired about dates. They had two available dates left in the summer, one of which happened to be the day we got engaged so it was an easy decision!

Where did you have your reception?
Viceroy Snowmass Village

How did you decide on Viceroy Snowmass Village for your reception?
We wanted to go a less traditional route and have a small, intimate dinner party following our wedding ceremony. We went to visit the Viceroy Snowmass and saw Eight K and knew that was what we wanted. The private area of the restaurants had the exact look and feel we wanted. It could only only accommodate 54 people so that kept us in line when it was time to make the guest list.

Where did you have book your accommodations?
Viceroy Snowmass Village, The Westin and The Stonebridge Inn

What was the mood at your wedding?
Happy, celebratory, fun and intimate!

What is your best memory?
The ceremony. It was raining that morning and I was so worried people wouldn’t be able to appreciate the beautiful view from the mountain top but luckily the clouds parted for the ceremony and gave us the most beautiful backdrop. Walking down the aisle with my Dad and seeing Adam’s face for the first time that day was the best moment of my life.

Jennifer Hassett, Do you have any advice for a bride planning a destination wedding?
Do what makes you happy. It’s impossible to pick a location that will please everyone and at the end of the day it’s about you and your partner – make it exactly what you want and enjoy every second of it! The best part about having a destination wedding is that most people stay a couple of days so you get bonus time with all of your favorite people.

Do you have any additional thoughts to share with us on having a destination wedding?

I’m from New York and Adam is from the San Francisco Bay area so choosing a location while keeping our friends and families in mind was not the easiest task. After much back and forth on which coast we should get married on, we decided to have it in the state we now call home. Once we decided on Colorado we know we wanted it to be in Aspen. Most of our friends and family had never been and it’s such a special place we knew everyone would love it.

Where did you have your ceremony? Elk Camp Meadows

How did you decide on this location? It had fabulous views of our favorite ski runs.

Where did you have your reception? Elk Camp Restaurant

How did you decide on Elk Camp Restaurant for your reception? Everything is in one place and it is a short gondola ride which made for perfect pictures! The meadow for the ceremony and for dinner, a spacious new contemporary bar was perfect. It was all in one location and had patios and firepits!

What were your accommodations? Capitol Peak and Westin Snowmass

What was the mood at your wedding? Such lovely energy surrounded by family and close friends…you could literally feel the love in the air. This was a special love story shared by so many. From stepping down the aisle through fragrant lavender, followed by fine dining, to toasts and dancing the night away. The night ended magically with a spectacular sparkler send off under the starry skies.

What is your best memory? So much love was shared with the couple. One of a kind photos from the very top of Elk Camp.

This is a hallmark story if ever there was one. Their relationship started as being best ski buddies (keeping up with the guys skiing the steeps) to homemade chicken soup left on the doorstep during the flu season. Their ‘love’ was so obvious to anyone and everyone in this small town.

REAL ASPEN WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: Meredith and William’s Colorado Ranch Wedding

Transforming a barn into a beautiful reception space is always the best way to start with a blank canvas to express the story the couple would like to tell on their wedding day. This stunning, romantic event considered all the details from the s’mores pit to the lounge area and down to the farm tables and the result is magical.

Meredith Maroone, Do you have any advice for a bride planning a destination wedding?
The fire-pits and make your own s’more station for dessert where guests were able to enjoy the beautiful Colorado sky and observe stars they had never seen before coming from big cities in Florida and California. Remembering why your destination is unique to who you are as a couple and why you have brought all of your guests together there. This special early summer weekend wedding in the beginning of Aspen’s summer season was a wonderful way to share in the quiet town before Food and Wine hit the next weekend.

Although the weather can be iffy- booking on off-peak times ensured guests would have affordable lodging options. Using a planner who can make the last minute calls for weather would make the bride's day stress free as we covered and uncovered outdoor furniture minutes up until the ceremony started. Luckily the weather cooperated just perfectly for this special couple.

REAL ASPEN WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: Snowmass Club – Leeson/Verrills Wedding

0

A Snowmass Club Wedding Story

Wedding Date: August 2015
Bride and Groom: Bethany Leeson Verrills and Edward Mackenzie Verrills

verrill2

From the Bride:

Edward and I chose a location that was steps away from where we met as employees for Aspen/Snowmass in 2010.  Our home towns were so far away from one another, so we decided to have our wedding in the town where we fell in love.  We planned the wedding by ourselves, as many of our loved ones were far away.  All the signs, table numbers, picture frames, favors, welcome bags, etc. were hand-made by the bride and groom.  We wanted our wedding to be elegant yet fun.  Our theme was rustic chic.  We had a Thursday meet-n-greet at The Maroon Bells, a champagne toast on top of Aspen Mountain for my bridesmaids on Friday and a Sunday doughnut send off so that our guests could experience all that Aspen/Snowmass had to offer.

Where did you have your ceremony?  The Snowmass Club – Lower Grass Lawn

How did you decide on this location?  It was steps away from where we met (at The Commons as employees of Aspen/Snowmass) and was all inclusive, which we knew we wanted for our guests so they could enjoy the beauty of Snowmass all in one place.  Beautiful views and Deborah Gerlach (day of planner at the Snowmass Club) was wonderful to work with!

Where did you have your reception?  The Snowmass Club Patio

How did you decide on The Snowmass Club Patio for your reception?  The outdoor patio made us feel like we were outdoor, yet we weren’t. We hired a clear top tent and had access to Sage’s indoor area as well. The views were wonderful and the venue added a rustic/lodge vibe and yet was still elegant and classy.

Where did you book your accommodations?  The Snowmass Villas

What was the mood at your wedding?  Our wedding was a destination wedding for 90% of our guests, so many were visiting Aspen/Snowmass for the first time.  We wanted our reception to feel warm, romantic, elegant and fun.

What is your best memory?  Our ceremony — surrounded by Aspen trees, saying our vows. It was perfect!

Do you have any advice for a bride planning a destination wedding?  Our ceremony — surrounded by Aspen trees, saying our vows.  It was perfect!  Be familiar with the area, as we (bride and groom) were locals.  Trust and ask for help from the venue manager and look for free and affordable ways to get your guests involved in the area.  We had a sunset Meet-n-Greet at The Maroon Bells on Thursday and a champagne toast on top of Aspen Mountain on Friday.  Wonderful ways to show off our beautiful town!

5 Fun Wedding Favor Ideas

0

Favors are a small part of your wedding day details but they can be important. After months of planning you may just be considering the smaller details like favors. Wedding favors are a special way to thank your guests for attending your special day. They can be a part of your table decor and connect with your wedding theme. Still, wedding favors can often be extremely difficult to decide on. Here are 5 ideas for fun Aspen wedding favors.

Photo: The Wedding Chicks

1. Sweet Treats Surprise your guests with an edible treat to-go! Fun ideas include homemade flavored popcorn, s’more kits, cupcakes in a box, candy, chocolate, coffee or tea, honey or jam, and more. Hot chocolate mix with marshmallows and chocolate shavings in a mason jar is a cute idea for a winter wedding. The options are limitless. Pick something that is meaningful to the two of you. Make sure it is easy to take home, you don’t want people leaving them behind! Add little tags such as “Love is Sweet,” “Donut Leave Without a Treat” and other fun cards with a thank you!

2. Watch Love Grow Send your guests home with some seed packets, a satchel of lavender or a mini plant. These are perfect for outdoorsy weddings or for couples that love nature.

3. Kiss the Cook If you and your significant other love creating masterpieces in the kitchen, creating your own spice mix or condiment is a great gift. Give guests a spice packet blend that you mixed up yourself or share your signature salsa or BBQ sauce. Keep in mind that if guests are traveling by airplane to Aspen, they may not be able to bring anything liquid back in their bags.

4. Cheers to the Mr. and Mrs.

Keep the party going after the wedding by gifting mini alcohol, wine or champagne bottles. Another quirky idea is to give your guests mini hangover kits. Include a water bottle, tylenol, mints, visine, small toothbrush, chapstick, hair tie, tissues, emergen-c, etc.

5. Local Aspen

Altitude-Kit

Put together a little gift bag of goodies local to Aspen. Bundles Gift Company can help you put together an amazing looking bag. You can also choose to do welcome bags for an extra special treat for your guests. Include sweet and savory snacks, a refreshing drink, water bottles, altitude kits or anything that will make their stay more enjoyable.

Hopefully these ideas helped inspire you for your own favor ideas. Have you picked your favors already? Comment below with what you are doing, we would love to know!

Saving Money on Aspen Weddings, Part 2

0

Unusual weddings may save money

As a bargain-seeking Aspen bride, it’s easy to start economizing with the big-ticket items like wedding ceremony venue and reception site.  We hope part one of this blog series helped you with those suggestions.  Because there are many more opportunities to save money on your wedding, read on!

Several of our wedding planner-consultants urge brides and couples to think creatively and ask a lot of questions of your various wedding related contacts.  We all have notions of how weddings are “supposed to” go, but there is plenty of room for new ways to carry out the event.  Bargains on Aspen weddings

Certainly you have visualized the size of your wedding.  The bigger the invitation list, the bigger the food, supplies, gifts or favors, decor, and transportation bills.  Paring down to your absolutely most loved guests will pare down your costs. Consider a small wedding party as well.  A few attendants can be just as meaningful as a large number.

Another of those items that is sensitive to the size of your event is invitations.  Erin and Amy at Express Yourself in Basalt offer a very nice selection of invitations printed in their shop.  Who knew? Your excitement  in announcing your wedding celebrations can be conveyed quite well in this way.

Light snacks for a budget weddingIf food is an item you would consider crossing off your wedding must-have list, you aren’t alone.  Come right out and state the situation on your wedding invitation and guests can plan accordingly.   If you’re concerned that the grandpas, great aunts and little brothers are among those who will need sustenance amidst the excitement, ask caterers about light hors d’oeuvres and request lots of drinks options at the cash bar.

Surely it’s been mentioned by some relative or friend that you can do decor by yourself.  We hope you will take that suggestion as an offer to volunteer and delegate the job right away!  In Aspen, locals know that The Thrift Shop is a serious source for baskets and vases.  The current trend of sustainable or zero-waste weddings is an admirable effort, doing away with decor altogether or using  local branches, flowers and other natural props.

Finally, what about borrowing and sharing? The taboo topic you might be hearing first from us is borrowing a wedding dress.  Indeed, borrowing and sharing many wedding staples works for some brides.  To share the dress cost of your same-size friend marrying in the same year or season could help both of your budgets.  Along the same lines, when you are interviewing venues, officiants, or even transportation options, ask if another event is scheduled just before your date.  A conference that has just capped off their week with a bash Friday night might leave decor and floral centerpieces that could be enjoyed again Saturday night.  Did you know that you  may also be able to share the cost of firing up the Silver Queen Gondola?  Unofficially, events on top of the mountain that are purchasing the gondola service may carry over to your ceremony.  It doesn’t hurt to ask!

Eight Aspen Summer Wedding Bouquets We Love

0

Brides have a lot of choices to make and a lot to choose from when planning their Aspen wedding.  And many of our destination weddings love the local, rustic wildflowers mixed in with beautiful, formal flowers like those seen in our graphic this month:  Aspen Wedding Guide’s Favorite Summer Bouquets.

Aspen Branch is a popular Aspen florist who supplies many of our wedding clients.  We love these colorful bouquets for summer weddings (or anytime) because they make us happy.  Look how colorful and delicious!  The names of these flowers will delight you also, from Yellow Billy Balls to Juliet Rose; Dusty Miller to Hyacinth florets; mini Calla Lilies to Pincushion Protea and Lisianthus, Anemone, and Ranunculus.

We know you may not want to scrutinize every flower in every bouquet. (Or you may!) For now, just look at the many glorious and colorful options here and begin to think about what colors and textures appeal to you.  Then when you meet with your florist or wedding planner, you can begin to create your own unique bouquet.

Snowmass Club Wedding by Events by Windy

0

Tod and Jenifer married May 27, 2012 at the Snowmass Club in Snowmass, Colorado. Both from Oklahoma City, OK, they were married true to fashion with Colorado’s spring weather.  The morning started out with our beautiful bluebird skies, by ceremony time the temperatures started to drop and the clouds starting to surround the town of Snowmass Village. With an outdoor ceremony underway, the bride and groom were asked by Pastor Dan Bosco of Crossroads Church to think of “warm thoughts”. By the time the couple said “I do”, Mother Nature showered her blessings with tiny snowflakes on the couple as they captured some time together by Alice Koelle Photography.

Events by Windy and Mountain Flowers of Aspen, created a beautiful spring setting with curly willow, bright greens and crisp whites. Accented with touches of Kraft paper printed items from Express Yourself Basalt, such as wedding programs, menus, table numbers and seed packet favors, the simplistic elegance of Jenifer’s vision came to life.
