Spring Ski Wedding – Mountaintop Snowmass

Unique and Intimate Colorado Mountaintop Wedding

Alison + Adam  03.25.18

ALISON SHARES HER WEDDING DAY STORY:

The best memory from the wedding day was skiing down the mountain in our formal wedding attire together.

Riding up to the ceremony site with my dad.

How we chose Snowmass and Aspen for our wedding:  I have never been interested in having a large wedding and Adam always envisioned a traditional wedding. So When Adam and I got engaged, we had to think through how to celebrate the day in a way that would work for both of us. Since we are both avid skiers and so are our families, we decided to have a ski wedding!

I have been coming to Snowmass since I was 10 years old and Adam joined our family for the first time during Christmas 2017. He fell in love with Aspen just as I expected and even asked my Dad if he could marry me while going up the Campground Chairlift. We wanted our wedding to be something special so we were able to get permission to have a ceremony at the top of the Elk Camp chairlift with just immediate family (10 people only, including the groom and I). The ceremony was performed by one of my brothers and Adam’s sister. Following the ceremony, we skied down with the photographer in our wedding attire. We had a happy hour at Ajax Tavern and dinner at Table 47 at Element 47, both of which were amazing. Although the top of the mountain was chilly for spring skiing, the entire day was flawless and we both agree that it was the perfect non-traditional wedding for us!

We both love the views of Maroon Bells from the top of the Elk Camp Chairlift in Snowmass and couldn’t imagine a more beautiful backdrop for our ceremony.

Ajax for cocktail hour!

Element 47 for the Reception: I have been coming to the Little Nell for dinner since I was little (long before the restaurant was Element 47). The level of service that the Little Nell provides is incomparable and we knew they would have the most amazing dinner for our family.

0

Planning a Bachelorette weekend for a special bride? Aspen is the perfect destination! Glamorous, scenic and a mix of adventure and relaxation, there is something for everyone in your party to enjoy. Here are some ideas to help you plan!

Stay

  • The Viceroy, Snowmass Village: Is a popular choice for Bachelorette parties. They have luxurious 4 bedroom penthouses, a great option for keeping everyone together during the trip They have a 14 passenger shuttle that can be used to venture out into Aspen for a night out on the town without the worry of having to drive.

  • Hotel Jerome: Is a luxurious option with gorgeous views and a great location close to downtown. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy the many outdoor activities along with world-class dining and shopping.

  • Frias Properties- Another great option is renting a condo or home for the weekend! It’s a great way to have everyone in your group stay under one roof with enough space. Guests of Frias Properties enjoy health club privileges and also receive complimentary airport transportation.

Click here for additional accommodations we recommend!

Dine

Planning our your meals is important. Dinner reservations are a must in Aspen, especially for a large group. Both the Viceroy and Hotel Jerome have great dining options on property.

  • At the Viceroy, bachelorette parties can enjoy custom dinners in private dining rooms at TORO. Or for those looking for a more interactive meal, cooking classes with the executive chef. Must have dishes include the Hawaiian Tuna “Nikkei” and the Charred Brussel Sprouts- to die for! Sip on The Painkiller-(diplomatico reserva, bacardi 8yr rum , pineapple juice, coconut cream , orange juice) served in a fun pineapple glass!

  • Hotel Jerome’s J-Bar is a casual hot spot with vintage cocktails and small bites to eat.

    Other fun options we love:

  • Element 47 at the Little Nell is a favorite of locals and tourists, Element 47 features impeccable service with the local, seasonal flavors of Colorado. Great ambiance and an extensive wine list! Brunch here is also amazing, mimosas- need we say more!
  • The Bar at Wildwood in the Westin Snowmass is a fun spot to hang out. They have a nice fireplace and a beer hall feel with 10 taps of brews and pizzas!
  • Matsuhisa is a popular spot among sushi lovers! The charming little blue and red Victorian house doesn’t look like your typical sushi restaurant, but once inside it’s a sophisticated, Japanese style restaurant.
  • Venga Venga Cantina is a fun spot to get the party started. Mexican cuisine, lots of specialty cocktails and tequila tastings. They also have an Apres ski happy hour 3-6 pm Thursday-Saturday with live music.

Daytime

There is a lot to do in Aspen throughout the year.

  • If you come in the winter, for those that love the outdoors, take advantage of the amazing skiing or snowmobiling. Summer, enjoy hiking or river rafting!
  • Another great option for active groups include private yoga sessions on the Ying Yang.
  • Your group of ladies will be sure to enjoy some pampering during a spa day! Treat yourself to a massage, facial or get your hair and makeup done at Full Circle Salon and Mobile Beauty. You could even book them to come do your makeup in the hotel suite!
  • The Viceroy, Snowmass Village also has an amazing, luxurious spa with a variety of treatment options. You will want to spend the day here!

Nightlife

Ready to get the party started?

  • If you are making it an extended weekend, Thursday night free concerts on Fanny Hill followed by drinks at Base Camp afterward is a must!!
  • Check out Belly Up Aspen. This is a music venue and is busy at night!
  • A few bars open until 2 include Red Onion, Justice Snows, Eric’s Bar and Zane’s Tavern.
  • Escobar is a nightclub that has neon lights, a modern, cool crowd and music spinning. Perfect for dancing! Book a table to ensure you can get in and enjoy this hot spot.

These are a few ideas to make your bachelorette weekend getaway to Aspen one that is unforgettable! Thank you to Katie de Besche Director of Catering at Viceroy Snowmass for her contributions to this post.

REAL SNOWMASS WEDDING: Jen and Blake Marry at Maroon Bells

0

Wedding Date: 08/06/2017
Bride and Groom: Jennifer Murer and Blake Yutuc

Jen and Blake tied that knot on the most perfect beautiful clear day at Maroon Bells in front of 45 of their closest family and friends. Their joy-filled ceremony was special and unique. They exchanged personal vows and had a tree planting ceremony. Their “best day ever” continued at The Westin- Snowmass village, where guests enjoyed interactive pasta, prime rib, and salad bar stations. Everyone danced the night away with a drink in hand and sent the beautiful couple off with sparklers.

Bride, Jen shares more about what made their wedding a special day below!

Where did you have your ceremony? Maroon Bells

How did you decide on this location? When Blake and I got engaged we both wanted to have our wedding surrounded by the beauty of nature. We are absolutely in love with the mountains and Texas kind of lacks in that geographical department. That is when our ceremony location hunt began in Colorado. I searched for weeks for the perfect location and that’s when I found Maroon Bells. I looked at Blake and said “I’m done! This where we are getting married!” He fell in love as soon as I showed him the pictures. The anticipation of reserving Maroon Bells was killing me and I was filled with endless joy when we were finally able to reserve!

Where did you have your reception? The Westin- Snowmass Village

How did you decide on The Westin- Snowmass Village for your reception? We took a trip up to Aspen a year before the wedding to really grasp and feel the vibe of reception locations we were looking at online. Since all our family and friends were traveling to Aspen and had never been to the area, we chose to have our reception at the hotel that all our guests would be staying at. After visiting hotels and their reception spaces we decided that The Westin in Snowmass Village had everything we wanted for our guests and reception. We chose the Garden Terrace Tent that had the perfect view of the Northern Mountains.

Where did you book your accommodations? The Westin- Snowmass Village

What was the mood at your wedding? Our ceremony was extremely personal and full of infectious joy. We decided that we wanted our officiant to incorporate our love story, how Blake knew I was the one, and how I knew he was the one. Sharing how we met and these personal moments with our closest friends and family really helped to deepen the connection we already shared, as they were able to get a glimpse into our relationship from the beginning up to this point in time.

What is your best memory? The reception displayed the general vibe of our relationship and both the love we share for each-other and the love that our guests felt from our relationship. The fact that our guests were able to fully let go of everything else for a few hours and be present in the moment celebrating our love was absolutely beautiful.

Do you have any advice for a bride planning a destination wedding? Give yourself plenty of time to research and research more. Also, receiving suggestions from locals on vendors or restaurants for your rehearsal dinner is best, so join a local Facebook group where you are having your wedding.

Jen, thanks for sharing your gorgeous wedding with us! We wish you and Blake the best as you begin your journey together as Mr. and Mrs.!

Post ceremony, overlooking the Cirque, appetizers and cocktails will be served on our spacious upper deck as Wedding party and family take photos over an incredible vista of the Snowmass Valley Below. Dinner will be served in Gwyn’s Dining Room or on our Sail Plane Level. Conclude the reception dinner with a custom cake from one of our classically trained Pastry Chef’s. Q: What are special touches you love?

A:We are very proud of our family restaurant and venue and will do everything to make the experience as perfect and personal as possible. REAL SNOWMASS WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: Adam and Jennifer’s Intimate Destination Wedding

0

Wedding Date: 07/01/2016
Bride and Groom: Jennifer Hassett and Adam Peters

Where did you have your ceremony?
Aspen Wedding Deck

How did you decide on this location?
We were in Aspen for New Years Eve and fell in love with the view from the top of Aspen Mountain so we did some research, found the gorgeous wedding deck and inquired about dates. They had two available dates left in the summer, one of which happened to be the day we got engaged so it was an easy decision!

Where did you have your reception?
Viceroy Snowmass Village

How did you decide on Viceroy Snowmass Village for your reception?
We wanted to go a less traditional route and have a small, intimate dinner party following our wedding ceremony. We went to visit the Viceroy Snowmass and saw Eight K and knew that was what we wanted. The private area of the restaurants had the exact look and feel we wanted. It could only only accommodate 54 people so that kept us in line when it was time to make the guest list.

Where did you have book your accommodations?
Viceroy Snowmass Village, The Westin and The Stonebridge Inn

What was the mood at your wedding?
Happy, celebratory, fun and intimate!

What is your best memory?
The ceremony. It was raining that morning and I was so worried people wouldn’t be able to appreciate the beautiful view from the mountain top but luckily the clouds parted for the ceremony and gave us the most beautiful backdrop. Walking down the aisle with my Dad and seeing Adam’s face for the first time that day was the best moment of my life.

Jennifer Hassett, Do you have any advice for a bride planning a destination wedding?
Do what makes you happy. It’s impossible to pick a location that will please everyone and at the end of the day it’s about you and your partner – make it exactly what you want and enjoy every second of it! The best part about having a destination wedding is that most people stay a couple of days so you get bonus time with all of your favorite people.

Do you have any additional thoughts to share with us on having a destination wedding?

I’m from New York and Adam is from the San Francisco Bay area so choosing a location while keeping our friends and families in mind was not the easiest task. After much back and forth on which coast we should get married on, we decided to have it in the state we now call home. Once we decided on Colorado we know we wanted it to be in Aspen. Most of our friends and family had never been and it’s such a special place we knew everyone would love it.

Where did you have your ceremony? Elk Camp Meadows

How did you decide on this location? It had fabulous views of our favorite ski runs.

Where did you have your reception? Elk Camp Restaurant

How did you decide on Elk Camp Restaurant for your reception? Everything is in one place and it is a short gondola ride which made for perfect pictures! The meadow for the ceremony and for dinner, a spacious new contemporary bar was perfect. It was all in one location and had patios and firepits!

What were your accommodations? Capitol Peak and Westin Snowmass

What was the mood at your wedding? Such lovely energy surrounded by family and close friends…you could literally feel the love in the air. This was a special love story shared by so many. From stepping down the aisle through fragrant lavender, followed by fine dining, to toasts and dancing the night away. The night ended magically with a spectacular sparkler send off under the starry skies.

What is your best memory? So much love was shared with the couple. One of a kind photos from the very top of Elk Camp.

This is a hallmark story if ever there was one. Their relationship started as being best ski buddies (keeping up with the guys skiing the steeps) to homemade chicken soup left on the doorstep during the flu season. Their ‘love’ was so obvious to anyone and everyone in this small town.

REAL ASPEN WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: Meredith and William’s Colorado Ranch Wedding

Transforming a barn into a beautiful reception space is always the best way to start with a blank canvas to express the story the couple would like to tell on their wedding day. This stunning, romantic event considered all the details from the s’mores pit to the lounge area and down to the farm tables and the result is magical.

Meredith Maroone, Do you have any advice for a bride planning a destination wedding?
The fire-pits and make your own s’more station for dessert where guests were able to enjoy the beautiful Colorado sky and observe stars they had never seen before coming from big cities in Florida and California. Remembering why your destination is unique to who you are as a couple and why you have brought all of your guests together there. This special early summer weekend wedding in the beginning of Aspen’s summer season was a wonderful way to share in the quiet town before Food and Wine hit the next weekend.

Although the weather can be iffy- booking on off-peak times ensured guests would have affordable lodging options. Using a planner who can make the last minute calls for weather would make the bride's day stress free as we covered and uncovered outdoor furniture minutes up until the ceremony started. Luckily the weather cooperated just perfectly for this special couple.

REAL ASPEN WEDDING SPOTLIGHT: Snowmass Club – Leeson/Verrills Wedding

0

A Snowmass Club Wedding Story

Wedding Date: August 2015
Bride and Groom: Bethany Leeson Verrills and Edward Mackenzie Verrills

verrill2

From the Bride:

Edward and I chose a location that was steps away from where we met as employees for Aspen/Snowmass in 2010.  Our home towns were so far away from one another, so we decided to have our wedding in the town where we fell in love.  We planned the wedding by ourselves, as many of our loved ones were far away.  All the signs, table numbers, picture frames, favors, welcome bags, etc. were hand-made by the bride and groom.  We wanted our wedding to be elegant yet fun.  Our theme was rustic chic.  We had a Thursday meet-n-greet at The Maroon Bells, a champagne toast on top of Aspen Mountain for my bridesmaids on Friday and a Sunday doughnut send off so that our guests could experience all that Aspen/Snowmass had to offer.

Where did you have your ceremony?  The Snowmass Club – Lower Grass Lawn

How did you decide on this location?  It was steps away from where we met (at The Commons as employees of Aspen/Snowmass) and was all inclusive, which we knew we wanted for our guests so they could enjoy the beauty of Snowmass all in one place.  Beautiful views and Deborah Gerlach (day of planner at the Snowmass Club) was wonderful to work with!

Where did you have your reception?  The Snowmass Club Patio

How did you decide on The Snowmass Club Patio for your reception?  The outdoor patio made us feel like we were outdoor, yet we weren’t. We hired a clear top tent and had access to Sage’s indoor area as well. The views were wonderful and the venue added a rustic/lodge vibe and yet was still elegant and classy.

Where did you book your accommodations?  The Snowmass Villas

What was the mood at your wedding?  Our wedding was a destination wedding for 90% of our guests, so many were visiting Aspen/Snowmass for the first time.  We wanted our reception to feel warm, romantic, elegant and fun.

What is your best memory?  Our ceremony — surrounded by Aspen trees, saying our vows. It was perfect!

Do you have any advice for a bride planning a destination wedding?  Our ceremony — surrounded by Aspen trees, saying our vows.  It was perfect!  Be familiar with the area, as we (bride and groom) were locals.  Trust and ask for help from the venue manager and look for free and affordable ways to get your guests involved in the area.  We had a sunset Meet-n-Greet at The Maroon Bells on Thursday and a champagne toast on top of Aspen Mountain on Friday.  Wonderful ways to show off our beautiful town!

5 Fun Wedding Favor Ideas

0

Favors are a small part of your wedding day details but they can be important. After months of planning you may just be considering the smaller details like favors. Wedding favors are a special way to thank your guests for attending your special day. They can be a part of your table decor and connect with your wedding theme. Still, wedding favors can often be extremely difficult to decide on. Here are 5 ideas for fun Aspen wedding favors.

59e8c7ab19b8a3ac82e3e8e55e957a91

Photo: The Wedding Chicks

1. Sweet Treats Surprise your guests with an edible treat to-go! Fun ideas include homemade flavored popcorn, s’more kits, cupcakes in a box, candy, chocolate, coffee or tea, honey or jam, and more. Hot chocolate mix with marshmallows and chocolate shavings in a mason jar is a cute idea for a winter wedding. The options are limitless. Pick something that is meaningful to the two of you. Make sure it is easy to take home, you don’t want people leaving them behind! Add little tags such as “Love is Sweet,” “Donut Leave Without a Treat” and other fun cards with a thank you!

2. Watch Love Grow Send your guests home with some seed packets, a satchel of lavender or a mini plant. These are perfect for outdoorsy weddings or for couples that love nature.

3. Kiss the Cook If you and your significant other love creating masterpieces in the kitchen, creating your own spice mix or condiment is a great gift. Give guests a spice packet blend that you mixed up yourself or share your signature salsa or BBQ sauce. Keep in mind that if guests are traveling by airplane to Aspen, they may not be able to bring anything liquid back in their bags.

Photo: BeCollective on Etsy

4. Cheers to the Mr. and Mrs.

Keep the party going after the wedding by gifting mini alcohol, wine or champagne bottles. Another quirky idea is to give your guests mini hangover kits. Include a water bottle, tylenol, mints, visine, small toothbrush, chapstick, hair tie, tissues, emergen-c, etc.

5. Local Aspen

Altitude-Kit

Put together a little gift bag of goodies local to Aspen. Bundles Gift Company can help you put together an amazing looking bag. You can also choose to do welcome bags for an extra special treat for your guests. Include sweet and savory snacks, a refreshing drink, water bottles, altitude kits or anything that will make their stay more enjoyable.

Hopefully these ideas helped inspire you for your own favor ideas. Have you picked your favors already? Comment below with what you are doing, we would love to know!
